Feeder Cattle Weighted Average Report for 06/17/2017

Receipts: 6,086 Last Week: 713 Year Ago: 613

Compared to last week: Todays sale hosted the World Championship Livestock
Auctioneer contest and the large sale ring was standing room only throughout
much of todays long sale. Demand for all feeder cattle was very good on
heavy offerings. Feeder steers and heifers were all too lightly tested
last week to develop an accurate market trend, however higher undertones
were noticed on all offerings. Quality this week was mostly attractive to
very attractive with many sets of uniform cattle on offer. The best demand
was seen for cattle which could still be turned out to run on grass or
heavy weight cattle which could be quickly finished in the feedlot. Despite
a disappointing week for CME future contracts buyers were very optimistic as
they bid aggressively on all feeder cattle. Weigh up conditions were mostly
in the buyers favor this sale as most cattle offered were very empty. Flesh
conditions were mostly in buyers favor as well with many cattle in thin to
light flesh. Even backgrounded offerings were in perfect flesh as most
offerings were in light to moderate flesh. Market activity this sale was
mostly active to very active. Weigh up cows sold on mostly moderate to good
demand for moderate to heavy offerings. Demand for feeding cows was mostly
good to very good as quality ran deep throughout todays long sale. Many
long strings of cows were on offer this sale and buyers showed very good
demand for reputation offerings. Feeding cows sold mostly 2.00-4.00 higher
than last week on a much higher quality offering. Packer buyers purchased
cows steady to 2.00 higher on a much better yielding offering this week.
Weigh up conditions were in buyers favor this sale as many cows were very
empty. Todays cool weather helped sustain yielding conditions throughout the
long sale as cows stayed mostly empty throughout day. Slaughter bulls sold
2.00-3.00 higher as most bulls, like cows, were very empty. Several sets
of bred offerings were seen this sale and buyers from all over the country
purchased these offerings on good demand. Yearling heifers were set to calve
early and were ultra-sounded safe. Demand started the sale mostly moderate,
however demand for yearling heifers increased sharply as the sale progressed.
Feeder cattle receipts were 31 percent steers and bulls, 69 percent heifers;
with 88 percent weighing over 600 lbs. Offerings were 66 percent feeder cattle,
2.5 percent slaughter cows, 1 percent slaughter bulls, 13 percent feeding cows
and bulls and cows returning to the country, balance bred heifers, cows, and
pairs. Next sale will be Wednesday June 21nd 2017.
